TWO CUPS OF FRIENDSHIP

A professor stood before his philosophy class andhad some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large a nd empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with
golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was. So the professor then
picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled
into the open areas between the golf balls. He then
asked the students again if the jar was full? They
agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of cours, the sand
filled up everything else. He asked once more if the
jar was full? The students responded with an an
unanimouse "yes". The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured
the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the emoty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important
things_ God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions_ things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full."
"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else_the small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first" he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls."
The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Invite your friends to dinner.Play another18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the thing that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented?
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cupes of coffee with a friend."

دو فنجان دوستى
استاد كلاس فلسفه در مقابل شاگردان ايستاده بود و چند چيز هم در مقابلش روى ميز قرار داشت. وقتى كلاس شروع شد، او بدون اينكه حرفى بزند، يك شيشه بزرگ و خالى مايونز را برداشت و آن را با توپ هاى گلف پر كرد. بعد، از شاگردان پرسيد كه آيا به نظر آنها شيشه پر شده است؟ گفتند پر شده است. بعد، استاد يك جعبه سنگريزه درآورد وآنها را داخل شيشه ريخت. شيشه را آهسته تكان داد. سنگريزه ها در فضاى خالى ميان توپ ها قرار گرفتند. بعد دوباره از شاگردان پرسيد كه آيا به نظر آنها شيشه پر شده است؟ گفتند پر شده است استاد سپس يك جعبه شن درآورد و آنها را هم توى شيشه ريخت. البته شن ها همه فضاى خالى را پر كردند. بار ديگر از شاگردان پرسيد كه آيا به نظر آنها شيشه پر شده استشاگردان متفق القول گفتند: بله
سپس استاد دو فنجان قهوه از زير ميز درآورد و آنها را تماماً در شيشه ريخت. در نتيجه فضاهاى خالى ميان شن ها هم پر شد. شاگردان خنديدندوقتى خنده تمام شد، استاد گفت:" حالا از شما مى خواهم كه اين شيشه را به مثابه زندگى خودتان بدانيد. توپ هاى گلف موضوعات مهمّ زندگى شما هستند: خدا، خانواده، فرزندان،سلامتى، دوستان و روابط عاطفى مورد علاقه تان ، موضوعاتى كه اگر همه چيزهاى ديگر از دست بروند و فقط آنها بمانند، هنوز زندگيتان پر است. سنگريزه ها موضوعات مهمّ ديگر هستند، مانند كار، خانه و اتومبيلتان. شن ها موضوعات كم اهميت تر بعدى هستند. اگر اوّل سنگريزه ها را داخل شيشه بريزيد، ديگر جايى براى شن ها يا توپ هاى گلف باقى نمى ماند
زندگى هم همين طور است. اگر همه وقت و انرژى تان را صرف موضوعات كم اهميت كنيد، هرگز براى چيزهايى كه براى تان اهميت دارند، فرصت نخواهيد داشت. به چيزهايى كه براى خوشبختى تان ضرورت محسوب مى شوند، توجه كنيد. با فرزندانتان بازى كنيد. براى معاينات پزشكى تان وقت صرف كنيد. دوستانتان را به شام دعوت كنيد. دوباره به هجده سالگى برگرديد. هميشه براى تميز كردن خانه و تعمير وسايل مصرفى، وقت خواهد بود. پيش از همه حواستان به توپ هاى گلف باشد، يعنى چيزهايى كه واقعاً اهميت دارند. اولويت ها را مشخص كنيد، باقى شن هستند."يكى از شاگردان دستش را بلند كرد و گفت:"قهوه در اين بين نشان دهنده چه چيز است؟" استاد لبخند زد و گفت:"خوشحالم كه سؤال كرديد;اين فقط نشان مى دهد كه هر قدر هم زندگى تان به ظاهر پر باشد ولى هميشه براى صرف يك فنجان قهوه با دوستان وقت هست
